Foundation Crack Repair
When discussing crack repair in poured concrete foundation walls, there are 2 different types of problems, one deals with settling or moving foundation issues and the other deals simply with leakage through small stress cracks; the repair for the leakage problem is known as crack injection.
- Repairing a poured concrete foundation wall which has settled or moved is done the same way as a block wall, with piering or wall supports. Piering would consist of Helical piers which are turned into the ground with hydraulic equipment to firm strata and Resistance (Push) piers that are pushed into the good soil by using the weight of the structure.
- Repairing a leaking stress crack in a poured concrete foundation wall consists of injecting the crack with epoxy. This method is used only on stable walls. Usually the epoxy is a polyurethane resin and when combined with water, seals the crack through the entire thickness of the wall. This method can work well on cracks from .002? to 1? wide. Block walls are not candidates for crack injection.
